Muin Mound Grove Business Meeting - 12/22/01

Present: Kia, Skip, Phoenix, Laurel, Dennis, Sharon, Lisa and Miss P

Kia called the meeting to order at 3:10.

Old Business:
• Report on the caroling by Laurel – It went very well and the Bardic list is looking for time and events to do further projects at. On the Bardic list there was talk about having the grove march in the St. Patrick’s Day parade.
• Seers report by Laurel – The Seers Guild is working on the runes right now. The Ethics Statement will be on the Seer’s web site soon. They need to work on the bylaws and election procedures next. The next meetings are scheduled for: 1/20 (1 to 3 PM) then 2/10 (1 to 3 PM). At that meeting, Skip will do a presentation on the Oghams. In April, the meetings will go to more than one a month.
• This was followed by a discussion on divination in general and the Seer’s Guild.
• Artisan’s report by Laurel – The guild is still basically on hold. There has been some discussion on projects the guild can do. Some of the ideas are: Life masks from more of the Folk (from Phoenix), statues (from Kia) and pottery painting (from Laurel).
• Laurel told us that seeds and pots have been passed out to grove members that have volunteered to start seeds on their windowsills for next years community garden. A short discussion was held on what to plant. Laurel said that if anyone wants anything special planted, to talk to her.
• MMG donated 41 lbs. of food to the Food bank this quarter for our community service project. The Bards singing at the nursing homes also counted as a community service project this quarter.
• Motion by Kia, seconded by Skip to hold all MMG rituals outside, unless the weather is VERY bad, then they will be canceled and rescheduled for the next weekend. All in favor none opposed.
• A discussion was held about the length of the Samhain ritual and ways that it could have been shortened.

New Business:
• Amanda got a job. Congratulations from all.
• The trailer to take people out back in was not completed in time for the Yule ritual. Skip vowed it would be done for Imbolc.
• Motion by Phoenix, seconded by Skip that the grove start a children’s library. She requested that people donate books for it and she will act as the librarian. All in favor none opposed. She will write an article for the next newsletter about it.
• Ideas were discussed for the kid’s participation in the Imbolc ritual. Some of the ideas were to have the children participate in circle stories and for them to make Brat Brídes, ‘Brigit's Mantles’ before Imbolc. These are pieces of cloth that are left out on the eve of Imbolc to receive the blessings and to be imbued with healing power by Brigit when she makes her tour of the countryside to visit her followers. Phoenix will write an article on this for the newsletter. Phoenix also volunteered to write a ‘Children’s Corner’ article for each newsletter.
• Fundraising ideas were discussed. Kia volunteered to donate a belly dancing chain mail outfit for the grove to auction off. The auction will be held when we sell $150 worth of tickets. There will be an announcement and picture of it on the web site and in the newsletter.

Muin Mound Madness – 2002:
• A discussion was held about vendors at the event. A motion by Skip, seconded by Phoenix that a vendor fee of $25 above the event fee would be charged. All in favor none opposed. Kia will send notices of the event to the list of vendors she has from Pagan Pride Day.
• A discussion was held about holding an auction on Saturday afternoon. An article will be written for the newsletter asking people for donations for it.
• Kia will be looking into an insurance policy for MMG, similar to the one that CNCY had to get before using Long Branch Park. It would be a One Million dollar liability policy covering any grove event.
• It was decided that the workshops should start at 9:30 each day and run for 1 hour and 15 minutes. This will give a 15-minute break between each workshop slot.
• It was also decided that the event should run from Thursday to Sunday. The fee for the whole event will be $50 with a $15 day pass. Work-study (reduced rate for working before and / or during the festival) will be available at a rate of $5 / hour.
• The Artisan’s Guild will be asked to make some kind of token to be given to attendees.
• It was decided that workshop presenters would be given free admission for doing 2 workshops or ½ price admission for doing 1 workshop.
• Ideas for a theme for the event were discussed. Some of the ideas were: ‘Living together, Growing together’ and ‘Strength and Success – 2001.’ The planning committee will be getting more ideas together and sending them to the MMG list. At the next online meeting, we will vote on the theme and ask our artists for ideas on a logo. At the Imbolc meeting, we will see the logo ideas and vote on them.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:20 PM on a motion by Skip, seconded by Kia.
